Dickerson Wins Mr. U.S.A. Title

by the Editor

AS far as we know there is always much controversy over most decisions of physique titles. One of the reasons is that the judges make their decisions under normal lighting conditions and under normal unposed observations. A man can look much better under a strong spot light moving rapidly from one pose to another, carefully concealing any bad points he might have. We feel the decision of the judges in this event was fairly well received, with only a few boos evident. There were several very outstanding physiques in this contest but it seemed that Chris Dickerson, a very popular young fellow, was outstanding. He had made remarkable improvement since we had last seen him. We had fully expected to see Boyer Coe win this title easily. Boyer did look good but we didn't think he looked as good as at some previous contests. Perhaps he had overtrained a little. Ken Waller looked good and had improved his posing routine a thousand per cent. Here is a boy who has a Mr. America physique in the making. A little more shaping on his legs and more cuts and definition and it ought to be in the bag. Ralph Kroger, taking third place, showed improvement and a nice physique. He had been up to around 230 or more while lifting, and had trimmed down rapidly to perhaps near 200. St. John looked very good and continues to improve and may have some fine possibilities if he continues to work hard. His abdominals are excellent. Steve Reno, our cover man, looked great and will take a place at the top with more bulk. John Lynn, a young fellow from Denver, took 7th place and best abdominals. There were some superb abdominals there but the judges felt that John's were more thickly developed as well as having good definition and shape.
