I've added a field in the database for Unicode. That means that names can be displayed in their native character set, such as Japanese, Chinese, Cyrilic, Arabic. Go look at the Japan Nationals for examples. Of course I don't speak any of those languages, so people will need to send me the unicode translations.
I moved to a new host. Will be using more php, less cgi.
I've added a Wiki, a community document where anyone can create a page on any topic relating to bodybuilding. You can create a page about yourself, or a historical figure in bodybuilding. Others can contribute to the same pages, as well as make corrections to existing pages.
I continue to enter Table Of Contents of bodybuilding magazines into a searchable database. The table of contents are also display on the individual magazine cover pages. A list of all table of contents of various magazines is available at the bottom of the articles page.
I began with my oldest magazines, and am currently up to 1970. Its going to take a while to get to the 1980s, 90s, and 2000s.
I continue to type in and scan articles of interest from vintage magazines. (Some magazine articles scan easily. For others, depending on the paper and print quality, I must manually type them in.) These include contest reports, biographies, articles on steroids, and the Hoffman/Weider feud. The bottom of the articles page shows the articles listed by magazine. Also, contest reports and biographies are cross-referenced with the rest of the database. Contest reports are noted at the bottom of the contest pages. The best way to see which years of a contest have contest reports is to view the Overall Winners page. From the List Contest By Name page, select one of the major contests, such as the AAU Mr America contest, then select Overall Winners. Contests with reports will be noted with the word "(report)". Be aware that only the major contests will have reports. This includes the AAU Mr America, Mr USA, the unsanctioned pro MR USA, NABBA Pro and Amateur Universe, the IFBB America, Universe, World, and Olympia.
I've added a donation page. If you like what I'm doing, please give. If you use MuscleMemory in your profession, please give a lot.
I have added a weblog for news items and current
events. You can subscribe to this link
to be notified when a
new posting has been made. Right-click on the link, copy link location, then
paste the address into an RSS reader.
I've been tinkering with the CSS style sheet. "Now without underlines!" I've also been moving many of the cgi scripts to php. Doesn't mean much to the viewer, but it looks good on my resume.
Athlete history now includes a list of their magazine covers
Search By Name now allows wildcard searches.
Examples:
Mc* will list all athletes who's last name begins with "Mc".
*, Steve will list all athletes who's first name is Steve.
The input to the CGI scripts have been simplified
