Pier cops bust big-time steroid pusher. Don’t recognize the name? Look closely at the t-shirt in the pic. Its Big Red HH, one of the moderators from the bodybuilding.com forum. Note that bb.com has since banned him from the board. Also they seemed to have deleted all postings regarding his arrest.
The news article claims that Jason Cholewa was a major dealer, but only found about $4000 of drugs in his apartment. Heck, if it were all steroids, he could probably claim it was for personal use. But there were other drugs there, including vicodin.
In all the recent bodybuilder drug busts, it seems that its the other drugs that really jack up the time for the crime. Here is a hint: if you’re going to deal steroids, don’t deal the other stuff. If you’re supplying someone with steroids for months or years and he suddenly starts harassing you to find him some ecstasy, tina, or pain killers, he’s probably setting you up.
BTW, the solution to the steroid drug problem is to repeal the part of the 1990 Steroid Control Act that makes it illegal for a medical doctor to prescribe steroids for performance enhancement or cosmetic purposes. Isn’t it better for people to take reasonable doses of steroids under a doctors supervision rather than buying who knows what off the black market?
And see the June 4 blog entry to see how bodybuilding.com compares to other on-line supplement resellers.
Dave Palumbo charged with “illegally distributing a counterfeit version of the human growth hormone, somatropin.” Full articles here and here.
So much for that XM Radio commercial. (mpeg)

David Pecker [AMI] wanted the Olympia contest.
Ben Weider would not give him the Olympia contest. David Pecker wanted the Olympia contest. Ben Weider and David Pecker fought about it. Ben said no way over the Mr. Olympia contest. David Pecker told Wayne Demilia and Jim Lorimer he would support them in a new division. Wayne started to get sponsorships and the promoters to agree on it. David Pecker did not respond to the IFBB on the new division. Wayne continued via signs of encouragement from AMI. Ben Weider started feeling increased pressure. Ben Weider realized he may not win if AMI goes with the new division. Ben Weider gives in – gives Olympia to David Pecker. David Pecker got what he wanted by playing human pawns. |
In today’s news release on the IFBB website:
AMI will be involved with the Mr Olympia and two new events, the Joe Weider World Cup and the Joe Weider International Cup.
Favorite quote: “Even fans concede the comic-book-esque physiques it promotes cannot be achieved without use of performance-enhancement agents such as steroids, which are illegal.”
Houston Chronicle: Congress appears ready to ban over-the-counter sales of muscle-building supplements and other steroid-linked substances…
The article talks about “protecting the children”, but rather than limiting sales to adults, they must ban the whole thing. And my favorite part of this bill: doubling the penalties for selling steroids and steroid precursors within 1000 feet of a gym.
Write your congressman now. Tell him/her to oppose HR 3866
Women’s pro Jan Tana Classic and men’s Master’s Olympia has been canceled.

The IFBB announces a reorganization of their pro division. DeMilia is out. Manion and Eric Weider are in. Exclusive relationship with AMI, the National Enquirer publishing company that recently bought all the Weider mags, including Flex and Muscle & Fitness.

Still no official word anywhere on the net of what’s going on with the IFBB and the new Pro Division, but here are some observations that may or may not mean anything:
